How to keep characters consistent across every scene

The single biggest giveaway of AI video is a character whose face changes from shot to shot. Here is how Tomson Studio keeps your cast recognizable — and how to get the most out of it.

Start with a strong reference sheet

Every character has a reference sheet: a canonical image of who they are. Treat it like a casting photo. Write a description that nails the details that matter — age, build, hair, wardrobe, distinguishing features — and keep the background neutral so the model focuses on the character, not the scene.

Generate or upload — your choice

You can let the studio generate a sheet from your description, or switch to the Upload tab and bring your own image. Uploading is perfect when you already have concept art, a photo, or a look you nailed elsewhere and want to keep using.

Use style references for cohesion

When you create a location or a prop, you can attach a character as a style reference so the new asset matches your film's art direction. You can also upload extra reference images to steer the look. The more aligned your references are, the more cohesive your world feels.

Select the right cast for each shot

In a screen, pick exactly the characters, locations and props that appear. Their sheets are passed into generation as references, which is what keeps faces and designs stable. Mention each by name in the prompt so the model knows who is doing what.

Edit and regenerate without losing the look

When you edit a character, the previous sheet is reused as an image-to-image reference, so tweaks refine the design instead of replacing it. Small, iterative edits beat starting from scratch.

Continuity between shots

For motion that carries across cuts, let a scene continue from the previous clip's final frame. Combined with consistent references, this is what turns a pile of clips into a believable sequence.
